In an effort to limit the cartels and their spending of drug profits, the Mexican government has now mandated a limit of purchases made in US dollars. Now, purchases above 100 USD must be paid with pesos instead. According to local news station Channel 4, Mexican officials hope to make it harder for the profits of the drug cartels to flow through the shops of Mexico.

Comment: This measure is already enforced in Mexico as of Sept. 15th. There is no current indication or guide to show the impact on the economy or on the cartels. However, this may be a step in the right direction to prevent drug and human trafficking from being profitable for people who are part of these groups. It will take at least six months, if not more, to determine the impact of this policy.
