Has Perry done enough to stop illegal immigration and smuggling?

Oct. 14th 2010

In a MSNBC video posted, Gov. Rick Perry was accused by Bill White of not doing enough for illegal human smuggling and immigration. Both sides are mudslinging one another; neither candidate admits to their wrongs.

Perry claims that he will now target so called "smuggling sanctuary" cities, cities that are not allowed to ask anyone's immigration status or to attack those who are illegal. He also supports Arizona's law, but does not wish it for Texas, because he says that it burdens law enforcement.

Unhappy citizens commented on his current position; some claim that Perry hasn't done enough, and he's had enough time to. Others point out that he signed the bill to allow illegal immigrants to come to Texas colleges and pay in state tuition, and "if he was truly against immigration, he would have that law repealed," someone stated. (1) Talkback, the show hosting the questions and interviews, states that they "won't support the left or the right; you have to look beyond that to see the truth."

Comments: Though Perry seems to throw this in merely for political gain, it is bringing up the subject and forcing Texans to think about illegal immigrations. As the cartels approach our borders, it gets harder to ignore, and perhaps this rhetoric will lead the lawmakers to create legislation to protect Texans.
